Blacks vs. Immigrants?

Exploiting African-American men’s high unemployment rate, NumbersUSA – anti-immigration advocates – premiered an ad yesterday where a black man questions why “our leaders are going to admit another million immigrants…when 3 million black Americans can’t find work.”  Which jobs are they talking about? Cleaning homes?  Mowing lawns?  Child care?

High unemployment for black Americans, men particularly, results from many economic factors (decline of public sector and factory jobs; cities’ deindustrialization) and from entrenched social factors (racial discrimination, attacks on organized labor, substandard K-12 education).

NumbersUSA doesn’t look to address any of those real underlying issues. Divide and conquer, that’s their strategy. It’s old.
